What's on City of Melbourne

Building accessible homes

With an ageing population and 20 per cent of Australians having a disability, it is becoming more and more important to make our homes and public places easy to access.

'Welcome – Design Ideas for Accessible Homes' is a comprehensive guide to designing accessible homes for building professionals and home owners.

The publication was produced by the Building Commission in conjunction with the City of Melbourne and the Office of Housing. The 140-page guide outlines ideas for improved access in and around the home for all people, irrespective of their age or mobility.

The guide includes drawings and photographs that illustrate how to improve access for any residential building project. It will appeal to building designers, home builders, access consultants and students. The publication is available from the Building Commission for purchase from $33.
