What's on City of Melbourne

About Docklands

Docklands became a part of the City of Melbourne in 2007. The suburb's 200 hectares of land and water are on Victoria Harbour, west of the city centre. Its inclusion doubled the size of the Melbourne’s city centre and returned the waterfront to the city.

The area is close to Melbourne's main transport networks, including Southern Cross Station. Docklands is well-known as home to the Etihad Stadium and a large number of modern buildings and public spaces and artworks.

From the original development at New Quay, featuring apartments, restaurants, a marina and film studios, Docklands has grown into a thriving waterfront suburb offering a mix of inner city living, shopping, business, parks, entertainment, dining, sporting events, marine transport, community events and arts and culture.

Docklands has also become the national headquarters for a number of major businesses, including the National Australia Bank, ANZ, Myer, AXA, Bendigo Bank, Medibank Private and the Bureau of Meteorology.

It is estimated that by around 2020 Docklands will have 20 million visitors each year, be a workplace for 40,000 people daily and a residential area for up to 17,000.

Docklands Library – a community hub for Docklands

Melbourne’s most progressive waterfront neighbourhood has commenced its next decade with the unveiling of a new civic place which is set to breathe fresh life into Victoria Harbour.

The Docklands Library and community centre will be delivered by a unique partnership model comprising of City of Melbourne, Lend Lease and Places Victoria.

Located at the intersection where Collins Street will meet Bourke Street, the library and community centre commenced construction in 2012 and completion is aimed for mid 2013.
