VEC countback to elect replacement Councillor

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) has been engaged to conduct a countback of votes to elect a replacement Councillor, following Cr Peter Clarke's resignation which takes effect from close of business on 7 July 2011.

Below is the timetable for the countback.

Friday, 24 June

Date extraordinary vacancy occurred

Saturday, 2 July

Public notice of the conduct of the countback published in The Age and Herald Sun

No later than Friday, 8 July

Returning Officer gives written notice to each eligible candidate of extraordinary vacancy occurring.

Tuesday, 19 July at 10:30am

Countback conducted at VEC offices, 530 Collins Street.

Returning Officer notifies successful candidate and requests completion of declaration within 48 hours that candidate is still eligible to become a Councillor.

If the candidate does not complete the written declaration within 48 hours, a further count is to be conducted as soon as practicable.

As soon as possible after receipt of declaration

Returning Officer declares candidate elected.

Public notice of person elected published in newspapers and Minister notified.
