What's on City of Melbourne

Personal training

New Permits for Personal Training

A permit system is in place so that personal training or fitness activities can be held in Melbourne Parks. The system provides the opportunity for people to exercise, while also making sure commercial fitness activities do not prevent others from enjoying Melbourne's parks.

Personal trainers wishing to use Melbourne’s parks must apply for an annual licence via the personal training permit application form.

From 1 July 2011, the State Government set standardised permit fees for all personal trainers and tour operators using Crown Land.

Personal trainers wishing to use Melbourne’s parks must now apply for a 12 month Licence via the online event permit application form. The State Government has introduced the new fees to provide a consistent charging model for personal training activities on all Victorian Crown Land.

Council is still responsible for issuing licences, collecting fees and managing personal training across the City of Melbourne and a new permitting system is being finalised by Council (with State Government). New permit fees will replace the fees currently charged by Council.

It is expected that eligible personal trainers will initially be offered a licence for the period from 1 November 2011 to 31 October 2012. Find out more about the new licensing system.

Please note: although the new fees refer to 'Tour Operators' using public land, personal training activities come under the new licensing system. Personal, or fitness, trainers are considered to be conducting a commercial activity on public land.
