The 'Crackle of Cockatoos' exhibition, located in the Library at The Dock window, is an intriguing installation created by Palawa contemporary artist Josh Deane. The exhibition features a group of paper mache cockatoos, with each sculpture incorporating paper as a tribute to the library environment.

Growing up on the ancestral land of the Kabi Kabi (Sunshine Coast), Josh Deane now calls Naarm/Melbourne home.

Inspired by the profound bond his Grandad shared with a cockatoo, which served as his totem and spirit animal, Josh's artwork reflects his personal connection to these majestic birds.

During their time living in a bush caravan in northern Queensland, Josh's grandparents were frequently visited by wild cockatoos. However, one particular cockatoo formed an extraordinary bond with his Grandad and chose to accompany them when they moved, serving as a lifelong inspiration for Josh's artistic expression.

Through this exhibition, Josh Deane invites you to experience the beauty and significance of cockatoos in his life and the wisdom passed down by his Grandad. Join us as we explore the intricate relationship between humans and nature, and the profound impact it can have on our artistic journeys.

Don't miss The Crackle of Cockatoos exhibition, where art, nature, and personal stories intertwine.
