Melbourne Children’s is a new initiative that brings together the Royal Children’s Hospital, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and the University of Melbourne’s Department of Paediatrics into a single, purpose-built and multi-award winning campus.
The shared culture of the campus is that of collaborative innovation. Through science we discover new ways to keep children well and heal those who are not. Through bedside care we translate this knowledge into better health outcomes and happier lives. Through education and training we embed our knowledge and the importance of discovery, in the next generation of paediatric specialists.
Since its official opening by Her Majesty the Queen in 1963, the Royal Children’s Hospital has played a major role in the health and wellbeing of children – from the discovery of the rotavirus in 1973 to the separation of conjoined twins Krishna and Trishna in 2009. In 2013 Victorians gave a record $16.4 million to the hospital through the Good Friday Appeal.
The Royal Children’s Hospital is an iconic Melbourne institution – loved by Victorians and recognised as a leader around the world.
