                    A volunteer helping a tourist
Volunteers play a vital role in the City of Melbourne’s tourism services.

Our volunteers' knowledge of the city and regional Victoria adds to Melbourne's reputation as a friendly, welcoming and culturally vibrant city.

If you would like to receive an email advising you of the next recruitment intake, please email tourism@melbourne.vic.gov.au.

Group interviews are then conducted and successful applicants undertake a training program. Permanent volunteer placements are offered after successfully completing a three-month trial period.

                    Is training provided?

Extensive training is provided to all volunteers from induction to ongoing on-the job mentoring and professional development. Volunteers must complete all components of training successfully before they become an official City of Melbourne tourism volunteer.

Volunteer shifts are typically four hours each week, but may vary. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one year of volunteering.

Periodically, volunteers are also asked to assist with additional shifts when there is a shortfall in the volunteer roster.

                    Is a uniform supplied?

Volunteers are supplied with some uniform items, including a shirt, vest, jacket, cap, hat and scarf. Volunteers wear their own trousers/ skirts and footwear.
