Queen's Food Hall now open
Through the precinct renewal program, the outdated 1980s food court was demolished and a contemporary Food Hall constructed.
The new Food Hall is another drawcard for the market, with an adaptable layout to make it easier for traders to do business, providing space for customers to relax and soak up the market atmosphere and improving connections to the rest of the precinct.
The space features an expansive dining area with lots of seating options, greenery, toilets and customer amenities.
The Victoria Street terraces have also been restored and repaired to better connect with the vibrant space, while celebrating the much-loved heritage features.
Visit on a market day for a diverse array of restaurants, cafés and eateries.

Background
- Improvements to the infrastructure and amenity of the existing food court to enhance the customer experience and connection to other areas of the market was identified in the 2015 Queen Victoria Market Precinct Renewal Master Plan and was reinforced in the 2018 People’s Panel report (Recommendation 6).
- In 2020, stakeholder engagement sessions were held with traders to define the operational challenges caused by current infrastructure in the Food Court and to gather their ideas to address these issues which would help inform the design of an improved space. This feedback was incorporated into the schematic design.
- The Food Hall concept designs were unanimously endorsed by Councillors at a Future Melbourne Committee meeting on 13 April 2021.
