City of Melbourne will undertake footpath upgrades across the municipality as part of our Streetscape Improvements Program for 2022-23.

These works are part of an ongoing program to respond to the changing needs of our streets and improve the experience of footpaths for people in some of the city s busiest walking areas.

The works are part of the $200 million Melbourne City Revitalisation Fund a partnership between the City of Melbourne and the Victorian Government.

The blitz will occur across more than 10 sites, demolishing worn out and unsafe existing footpaths and replacing them with bluestone pavers an iconic part of Melbourne s character. In some locations, new pedestrian access ramps and vehicle crossings will be constructed, and in others the bluestone kerb renewed. Works are anticipated to be fully complete by end of financial year 2023-24.

Accessibility and impacts of works

  • During works, pedestrian, vehicle and bicycle access will be restricted for short periods (including temporary diversions), however, access to residential properties and businesses will be maintained at all times.
  • Traffic management will be in place to guide footpath, road, and bike lane users throughout the works.
  • You may notice an increase in construction vehicles and workers in the area when we re working. For your safety, please observe any signs and instructions in place during this project.
  • Components of the works such as demolition and construction of footpath will involve some noise.
