                    Chinatown illuminated lighting upgrades

                    City of Melbourne is continuing to deliver for Chinatown, with $152,000 of new, illuminated mesh lighting to be installed permanently in the precinct from mid-2022. This follows the successful trial of lighting upgrades in 2021.

                    The works are expected to take four weeks once commenced. The works were originally scheduled to commence in late June, however have been delayed and now expected to commence late August, 2022.

                    The new fixtures will be installed on existing infrastructure along Lt Bourke Street from Exhibition Street to Swanston Street, approximately eight metres above street level.

                    Key details about the project include:

                    • 18 new, illuminated rectangle panels to be installed – with works commencing from the Exhibition Street end of Lt Bourke Street.
                    • Works will be carried out from 10pm to 6am, Monday to Friday (note, works will not take place Friday evening/Saturday morning).
                      • During these hours, works area will be open to local traffic only.
