Statement from the City of Melbourne on tiger snake

Media release, Thursday 22 February 2018
City of Melbourne’s animal management officers were notified by Victoria Police that a tiger snake had fallen from  underneath a car near the corner of Spencer and Collins Street just before 12 noon.

Animal management officers attended the scene and managed vehicle, cycle and foot traffic to ensure the snake and people weren’t harmed while they waited for the snake catcher to arrive.

Animal management officers flagged down a police van to assist with traffic management.

The snake catcher attended the scene and secured the snake before transporting it to a vet for assessment.

While City of Melbourne park rangers regularly respond to reports of snakes in some of our parks, this is the first sighting of a venomous snake in the central CBD in recent memory.
