Pop-up park

People relaxing at the pop-up park
The market pop-up park opened at the end of 2021, providing locals and visitors alike the perfect place to relax on the grass after filling a picnic basket with gourmet market produce.

The temporary green space, which is in a converted section of Queen Street roughly the size of the State Library forecourt, is part of the first stage of works to create even more much-needed open space for our growing city.

The Queen Street entry to the car park remains open and customers now have the ability to choose from either the open-air car park or the new Munro underground car park with over 1000 spaces available.

This $2 million project is part of the $100 million Melbourne City Recovery Fund – a joint partnership between the City of Melbourne and the Victorian Government.

Project overview

The pop-up park forms the next stage in transforming the open-air car park into the future 1.8 hectares of public open space.

A total of 60 car spaces were removed to create the space comprising 31 metered parking spaces on Queen Street, plus 29 parking spaces in the open-air car park.
