Play space
A large-scale public artwork, the play space features equipment secured to large bluestone boulders and includes:
- slides
- monkey bars
- swings
- a sand pit
- bluestone walls and seating
- Australian trees
- garden beds
- soft-fall surfacing.
Neighbourhood parks
Kavanagh Street to Moore Street:
- central lawn area
- new benches, tables and seating
- additional trees
- large feature rocks
- irrigation
- bluestone paving.
Fawkner Street to City Road:
- steel walkway through the park
- more than 80 new trees
- new irrigation and lighting
- bluestone paving.
Civic space
- New lawn areas and bluestone paving
- Planting and new trees
- Provision of power and communications to cater for events and broadcasts
- Installation of seating, picnic tables, benches and barbecues
- Further tree planting in the area undertaken in April 2021 during the tree planting season
Arts gateway
- Stone installation and landscaping in front of the Melbourne Recital Centre and Southbank Theatre
Bluestone footpath works to the front of the Buxton Gallery and Melbourne Recital Centre
Installation of 55 large native trees, 16 large grass trees and a variety of ground level planting, seating, furniture and lighting
St Kilda Road to City Road
- Realigned and rebuilt roadway
- Traffic signal and other utility installation works
- Public lighting installation
- Road re-asphalting
- Preparatory tram works including the installation of new tram poles
- New kerb and channel construction
- Relocation and under-grounding of services such as power lines
Tram works
- Construction of a new central island platform and new tram infrastructure

Stage 6 delivery
The development and delivery of Stage 6 is being coordinated with adjacent developments in order to ensure that disruption to the surrounding precinct and suburb is minimised, and projects are delivered collaboratively to maximise the benefits to the community.
We will keep the community up to date with this stage of the Southbank Boulevard Transformation, and will provide more information once planning commences.
