                    Market Street Park

                    Market Street Park concept
We have created the first urban park in the city centre since City Square was developed in the 1980s. The new park, located off Market Street, has created 1900 square metres of new public open space in the central city.

The new park, designed by Oculus, was completed in November 2021 and features wide bluestone paths to accommodate more pedestrians, new seating, space for programmed events, and improved pedestrian access to public transport. The new park also features new tree plantings from a variety of species, and water sensitive urban design to reduce stormwater runoff.

More than 1000 square metres of Market Street was discontinued and developed as public open space, including new bicycle lanes and parking.

The abutting development site ‘Collins Arch’ has been designed in collaboration with CbusProperty, Woods Bagot and New York City-based SHoP Architects. It includes a collection of residences, commercial offices and a five-star hotel, W Melbourne

Key features of the project include the creation of a new north-south oriented public park in the western section of Market Street incorporating:

                    • city garden and lawns
                    • terrace
                    • new separated north and southbound bicycle lanes
                    • central plaza connection from Market Street
                    • reconfiguration of Market Street to southbound traffic only.
