The health and wellbeing of everyone in our city is at the heart of all our decision-making at the City of Melbourne.

                    Health and Wellbeing Profile 2022

The City of Melbourne commissioned a review to track our progress at the halfway point of the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2021–25. From this review, a Mid-Point Health and Wellbeing Profile was developed in late 2022. Progress was measured against the six focus areas of health and wellbeing that are specified in the current Plan.

This Profile collates and reports on trends in health data and determinants in the City of Melbourne and compares it to state-wide estimates. There are 223 indicators that were tracked against the six focus areas in the Plan and compared to the results of the Health and Wellbeing Profile 2020.

                    Health and Wellbeing Profile 2020

City of Melbourne has compiled its Health and Wellbeing Profile 2020 which identifies and analyses the health and wellbeing data of our municipality.

In 2020, we faced the biggest public health challenge we have ever experienced. The impact of this major public health crisis on our community cannot be underestimated. The flow-on effects will be felt for many years to come. Perhaps now more than ever it is vitally important we have an overall picture of how healthy our community is, both physically and mentally.

This profile looks at health status, lifestyle factors and examines the key social, economic, built and natural environmental conditions that either support or hinder our community to lead healthy lifestyles and enjoy a good quality of life. It also examines the impact of COVID-19 on the health and wellbeing of our community. Understanding these factors helps us plan and adapt to meet the municipality’s future needs, and help ensure that segments of the community are not left behind.

This profile will guide the work of Council through our Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan, part of our Council Plan, to deliver on the priority health and wellbeing issues for our municipality over the next four years. And help us meet our requirements under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008.

The information in this profile will also help us as we work with our partners and the community to make the City of Melbourne a place where everyone can lead a healthy life. It can be used by policymakers, community groups, health professionals, researchers and residents to guide policy and program decisions, as well as encourage community engagement and action.
