They Cannot Take the Sky: Stories From Detention, an exhibition by Behind the Wire and Immigration Museum has won the 2017 Contribution to Multiculturalism by Community Organisation Melbourne Award.

This collaborative community exhibition by Behind the Wire and Immigration Museum, explored the experiences of those who have sought asylum in Australia and been detained in mandatory detention.

The project created a space for people to tell their own stories, focusing on the individuality and complexity of asylum-seeking and highlighting the resilience and creativity of asylum seekers, while providing space for connection with the wider community.
