Melbourne Knowledge Week will alter your perception of reality this year, with a free interactive multimedia experience Augmented Reality at Federation Square.
Participants of any age will be able to activate virtual scenes representing Melbourne’s key knowledge industries of higher education and research, the creative industries (particularly design), biotechnology, advanced manufacturing and information and communication technology.
Visitors to Federation Square will be able to watch as a fighter jet lands on top of them, or as the ground beneath passers-by opens up and digital apps pour out. You can also interact with virtual people as they take your photo or see Federation Square become an instant garden.
Melbourne Knowledge Week, from Monday 26th November to Saturday 1st December, seeks to showcase and celebrate the city’s knowledge economy, with more than 45 events on offer.
Melbourne Knowledge Week’s Augmented Reality experience will be operating at Federation Square on:
Wednesday 21 November from 12pm to 4pm;
Thursday 22 November from 10am to 1pm;
Friday 23 November from 4.30pm to 7pm;
Monday 26 November from 12pm to 8pm;
Thursday 29 November from 11am to 1pm; and
Friday 30 November from 10am to 12pm.
The City of Melbourne is also displaying its commitment to innovative thinking with the infographic competition currently running.
Designers or students can create an infographic that tells the world ‘Why Melbourne’ is a creative, innovative and knowledge-rich city for businesses to invest and operate in.
The winner will take home a $2013 cash prize and their work will take pride of place in the City of Melbourne’s Enterprise Melbourne initiatives for 2013.
More information on the ‘Why Melbourne?’ infographic competition is available here.
