Media release, Saturday 11 June 2022
One of Australia’s largest independent craft brewers, two specialty coffee roasters and a popular sushi outlet are set to draw visitors in their droves to the Munro development in the Queen Victoria Market precinct.

Seven hospitality venues will open their doors at the City of Melbourne’s Munro development in the coming months, enhancing the market’s gourmet offerings and giving visitors even more reason to shop, dine and dwell in the precinct.

                    New venues include:

                    • Brick Lane Market – a two-level immersive craft beer and hospitality experience by Melbourne independent brewer Brick Lane Brewing at the former Mercat Cross Hotel site, serving up a range of diverse beer styles alongside a food menu that highlights local, market-fresh produce.
                    • ST. ALi & The Queen – Coffee & Cocktails – specialty coffee roasters ST. ALi will offer breakfast and lunch, before switching to cocktails in the evening.
                    • Moonfishh – the popular Albert Park outlet will offer a full sensory sushi experience using fresh and seasonal market produce.
                    • Market Lane Coffee – the much-loved specialty coffee roaster will open its third café in the market precinct, serving up high-quality coffee with a focus on sustainable sourcing and ethical practices.
                    • Only Mine Chocolate – decadent, handmade delights will be the focus of the bespoke chocolatier’s first city location.

The operators will join wine bar and bottle shop, ReWine, which has already opened its doors in the Munro development. More detail on the remaining tenants will be revealed soon.

The $500 million Munro development will feature a community hub with a three-level library, a boutique hotel, affordable housing, build-to-rent residential apartments and 2500 of new open space.

The development will add 1800 of new retail and hospitality space to the city’s inner north, and will feature a diverse mix of businesses to reflect Melbourne’s world-renowned food, fashion and art scenes, while complementing the market’s unique offerings.

“The new hospitality venues in the Munro development will showcase the market’s sensational fresh produce to further enhance the profile of all our traders.

“We know these new businesses will also draw a new wave of visitors to the market and ensure the precinct is buzzing day and night, which is great news for our market traders and inner north business owners.”

Quotes attributable to Queen Victoria Market Chief Executive Officer Stan Liacos

“The Munro development represents an energising new chapter for the Queen Victoria Market precinct, building upon 144 years of trading history.

“Open seven days, day and night, this new offering is delivering on our vision to create an active precinct across the week and into the evening.

“The calibre of food and drink operators joining the Munro development is outstanding and we are thrilled to welcome this new collective of businesses as market neighbours later this year. Many of these operators have strong existing relationships and history within the market.”

Quotes attributable to Brick Lane Brewing Founder and CEO Paul Bowker

“Securing the Mercat Cross Hotel lease will be a transformative step in the growth of Brick Lane. We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Queen Victoria Market to deliver a world-class experience at one of Melbourne’s most iconic sites.

“Brick Lane has been fortunate to call Queen Victoria Market our home since we produced our first beer. It’s incredibly exciting to now launch Brick Lane Market as a new venue among the hustle and bustle of Melbourne’s laneways and in the location where we poured our first kegs.”
