Class descriptions

 

Boxing (45 minutes)

Boxing is a great high intensity class combining cardio and endurance work with muscle strength and power to create one great workout.  This mixed boxing class provides participants with the skills required for effective punching and kicking while ensuring they work hard to burn as much fat as possible.

No previous boxing skills or knowledge are required, just a great attitude for this 45 minute class!

Cycling (45 minutes) Whether your last bike ride was on training wheels or you're ready for the Tour de France, improve your cardiovascular fitness with this fun indoor cycling program. designed for all levels of fitness, this class offers a low-impact, highly effective workout to get your heart pumping and burn calories.
Gym circuit (45 minutes)

Gym circuit classes combine free weight and machine weight exercises to give you a great full body workout.

This class is appropriate for beginners as well as advanced. Participants can work at their own level of fitness. This is a great way to keep motivated within strength and conditioning training.

KBT (45 minutes)

A 45 minute strength and conditioning class, held outdoors. Kettle Bells are great for beginners through to seasoned gym users wanting to see results!

Outdoor fitness (45 minutes)

An outdoor class focusing on overall fitness utilising body weight and all that the outdoors has to offer! This class will challenge you in a fun, energetic, outdoor environment.

Pilates (one hour)

Pilates can help you improve body awareness and posture, decrease stress levels and increase core muscle strength and breathing to get you moving and feeling fantastic.

The Pilates method works the abdominal, spinal and shoulder muscles and focuses on stabilising and strengthening the pelvic floor as well as the core muscles. Pilates caters to all levels from beginners to advanced, as exercises have progressive levels which build on basic skills once they have been developed.

Run Fit

Run Fit will improve and assist you in achieving your short and long distance running goals. Our instructors will take you for long runs and also allocate sessions to building speed and power. Run Fit is great for people who have never run before, getting back into running and those who love to run.

Skip Fit

Skip Fit will improve your fitness, coordination and burn 500+ calories per session.  Getting back to basics, Skip Fit only uses the skipping rope. Our instructors will teach you how to skip, provide challenging and different routines that keeping you wanting more! Skip Fit classes cater for beginners to advanced skippers.

Stadium circuit (45 minutes)

This is a circuit based class in the stadium that involves a combination of body weight exercises, cardio and core activities.  Suitable for all levels of fitness and guaranteed to get your heart pumping.

Swim squad (45 minutes, seasonal only, 1 October to 30 April)

Swim squad is a great motivator for all swimmers whether you're after stroke development, fitness training or just love to swim. Classes cater for beginner and advanced swimmers and can be a great training method for competitive events.

Swissball torso tone (45 minutes)

Do you want to improve your core?  A torso tone class is a unique and challenging class to improve deep core and postural muscles using Swiss balls. The class is designed to work as many muscles as possible while working on balance and stability on the Swiss balls. This class is for all who have the desire to trim their core and tone their body in a fun and versatile manner.

Water workout (45 minutes, class held at the Melbourne City Baths during 1 May to 30 September)

Our aqua aerobics classes are a great way to work out with moderate to high intensity, whilst minimising the impact on your joints. A variety of aquatic equipment is used in these workouts for extra resistance and to assist with flotation. Catering to all ages and abilities, our aqua classes are run by friendly and qualified instructors who make it a fun experience for all.

From 1 May to 30 September the North Melbourne Recreation Centre pool is closed. During this period, members have access to the Water Workout Classes at the Melbourne City Baths heated, indoor pool.

Yoga fusion (one hour)

Warm up this winter with an energising early morning work out!  This Yoga Fusion class draws inspiration from the Ashtanga branch of yoga, with lots of sun salutations and strengthening postures designed to pick up your heart rate.  We’ll work through strong standing and seated postures focussing on building core strength as well improving hip and hamstring flexibility.  Backbends, twists and balances bring together a complete all round practice to kick start your day.  This is a challenging yoga class for intermediate students but with guided modifications for beginners.

Young at heart (45 minutes)

Staying active and looking after your health is important to maintain wellbeing and independence in all stages of life. This gym-based circuit class is specifically designed for young at heart members with a supervised instructor incorporating strength and flexibility exercises.
