Sunset Series features free bands in the city

Media release, Monday 4 January 2016
Food trucks, free live music and family entertainment will return to Fitzroy Gardens this summer for the annual Sunset Series.

Hosted by the City of Melbourne, the entertainment will be held on the Stage Lawn in Fitzroy Gardens and run across four evenings in January.

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said the free all-ages event provides the perfect soundtrack to a Melbourne summer.

“Sunset Series offers live local entertainment in one of our premier parklands. It’s a great opportunity to bring your family, friends, a picnic and enjoy summer in the city,” the Lord Mayor said.

The evening of Saturday 16 January will feature singer-songwriter Gena Rose Bruce, the Zebras, Frankie Wants Out, and calypso band Mighty Duke and The Lords. The Sunday session the next day includes dance workshops with NB Dance and The Fifths.

The following Saturday 23 January will feature the dreamy pop of Eliza Hull, country-soul artist Fraser A Gorman, indie-pop band Swim Season, and the Cactus Channel will have everyone up on the feet dancing to soul music as the sun goes down.

The following Sunday 24 January will feature go-go and 60s dancing with Anna Go-Go, Talei Wolfgramm, the Terry McCarthy Special and DJ Emma Peel.

Chair of Marketing Melbourne, Councillor Beverley Pinder-Mortimer, said Sunset Series is a unique and popular summer event.

“Summer in Melbourne is a great time to get outdoors and explore the city’s parks and gardens. This series highlights our commitment to providing free music and entertainment for residents and visitors,” Cr Pinder-Mortimer said.

Both Saturday and Sunday events start at 5pm and finish just before 9pm.
