Group fitness classes

Group fitness classes are a motivating way to keep fit and healthy.

The Melbourne City Baths group fitness timetable offers an extensive range of classes including our unique circuit and kettle bell classes. From beginners to advanced, there is something for everyone.

Class Description
Active Fusion  Active fusion is a combination of all the essential fitness elements for the active 50+ including cognitive function, strength, dance, and flexibility. Active fusion combines fun and exercise and is suitable for seasoned performers or first timers!

Body Pump

Body Pump is for anyone looking to get lean, toned and fit – fast! Using light weights with lots of repetition, Body Pump gives you a total body workout. You will burn up to 590 calories as our instructors coach you through the scientifically proven moves, helping you achieve much more than on your own. You’ll leave the class feeling challenged, motivated and ready to come back for more!

Boxing

Boxing is a great high intensity class combining cardio and endurance work with muscle strength and power to create an energising workout. Our mixed boxing classes provide participants with the skills required for effective punching and kicking while ensuring they work hard to burn as much energy as possible.

 

No previous boxing skills or knowledge are required, just a good attitude!

Circuit

Our circuit style classes combine upper body, lower body and core strength exercises with high intensity cardio exercises that will boost your heart rate. Our personal trainers will guide and motivate you through a range of functional exercises that cater for all levels of experience and fitness.

 

Reps (45 minutes)
Complete the prescribed exercises in the allocated time while our personal trainer records your repetitions of each exercise along the way. After a short breather you will repeat the routine in the same timeframe and try to beat the number of reps completed in round one.

 

Tabata (30 minutes)
Short-sharp efforts! Complete the prescribed exercises in a high intensity method of 20 seconds work, 10 seconds rest. The personal trainer will prescribe a number of exercises and sets to complete.

 

500s (45 minutes)
Complete 500 repetitions of the prescribed exercise routine in the fastest time possible without compromising technique! 50 reps of 10 exercises. Record your time and try to beat it throughout the week or at the next class.

 

Time (30 minutes)
Complete the prescribed number of repetitions for each exercise as fast as you safely can. Your trainer will record your time and after a short breather you’ll repeat the session, trying to beat your original time.

Cycling and RPM

Cycling and RPM are both indoor cycling workouts where you ride to the rhythm of music.

You will be taken through a range of riding terrains that are enacted through the use of resistance and variable speeds. No coordination or experience is needed, just hard work!

RPM is a pre-choreographed session while Cycling is a freestyle session where the instructor sets the structure of the class.   

Gymstick Core 

Gymstick Core is a complete body workout like no other group fitness class! Each exercise will improve your core strength, balance, posture, coordination, muscle strength and endurance. The class is designed in an interval format, encouraging you to apply maximum effort in a short period of time. Guaranteed to make you feel muscles you forgot you had!

KBT (Kettle Bell Training)

This unique functional training class will improve your strength, condition your body, increase your heart rate, make you sweat and burn calories. Kettlebell classes complement all exercise goals. We offer a variety of kettlebell weights which makes it easy for beginners to learn, and great for seasoned gym users wanting to see results!

Pilates Mat-based Pilates classes help to improve body awareness and posture while focusing on your breathing to decrease stress levels. The Pilates method targets abdominal, back and shoulder muscles whilst strengthening the pelvic floor and core to improve coordination and balance.

Prime

Prime classes offer a flexible and social program for over 60s. Classes are held in our training studio and outdoors, providing you with interesting, challenging and varied workouts. You will work on your cardio fitness and strength through the use of free weights, functional equipment and body weight exercises. Instructors will work closely with you providing a supportive environment for you to maintain and improve mobility, flexibility and strength. You must be a Prime member to attend this class.

Reformer

Reformer Pilates is a class that combines the principles of mat-based Pilates and specially designed reformer beds that offer resistance to strengthen you from the inside out. Reformer Pilates focuses on control, balance and strengthening exercises. All of our classes are run by qualified and experienced instructors to ensure you are prescribed safe and appropriate exercises whilst being challenged.

 

B/I Reformer (Beginner to Intermediate)
It is advised that new participants attend at least five mat Pilates classes to gain an understanding of the concepts and fundamentals of Pilates before trying Reformer. Beginner to intermediate classes will introduce the set-up of beds and work to master the basic techniques used in Reformer Pilates.

 

I/A Reformer (Intermediate to Advanced)
Intermediate to advanced classes are for those who have attended a number of beginner classes and have a sound understanding of the equipment we use here at MCB, as well as competency in the techniques and exercises performed in beginner classes. Intermediate to advanced classes work towards grasping and mastering the basics of the transverse activation, navel to spine, neutral spine, inside thigh connection and much, much more!

Run Fit

Run Fit will improve and assist you in achieving your short and long distance running goals. Our instructors will take you for long runs and also allocate sessions to building speed and power.

 

Run Fit is great for people who have never run before, getting back into running and those who love to run.

Swim squad  MCB’s very own swim squad incorporates education of swimming techniques and training methods to improve your fitness and stroke development.

Torso Tone

Torso tone is designed to condition your whole body with a focus on improving core and postural muscles by utilising swiss balls, free weights and body weight exercises. Torso tone classes will help you trim your core and tone your body in a fun and effective way.

TRX

TRX is a workout where our personal trainers utilise a frame apparatus and portable slings to get your muscles aching!

These classes rely on gravity and your body weight to tone your muscles and increase your heart rate to burn calories. Balance, strength and stamina will be tested throughout this functional training class. Beginners through to advanced participants are welcome and all equipment is provided.

Water Workout 

Water workout is a moderate to high intensity 45 minute session in our specialised program pool. A variety of aquatic equipment is used to add extra resistance and assist with floatation. Water workout is a great low impact class suitable for all abilities!

Yoga 

Yoga combines posture, breathing and relaxation techniques from a number of yoga disciplines to rejuvenate your body’s functions. Yoga can aid the circulatory and nervous systems as well as increase your flexibility. No prior yoga experience is required.

Yogalates  Yogalates combines the practices of yoga and Pilates to create exercises and poses that will cultivate strength, stamina, stability and flexibility. Yogalates pays particular attention to postural core muscles that protect the spine, support internal organs and promote good posture.

Zumba

Zumba combines low intensity and high intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie burning, dance fitness party! Zumba combines all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility in a hidden form of exercise!

 

Zumba Step
Step focuses on strengthening and toning your legs by combining step aerobics with the fun fitness party that is Zumba! Step increases your cardio and burns calories whilst adding moves that define and sculpt your core and legs.

 

Zumba Toning
Toning incorporates resistance through the use of toning sticks that focus on specific muscle groups, so you are constantly engaged. The maraca-like toning sticks enhance your sense of rhythm and coordination, whilst toning target areas such as your arms, core and lower body.

Class bookings

Group fitness class tickets are available one hour prior to the scheduled class time. Please collect your ticket from reception at least five minutes before the class commences and present your ticket to the group fitness instructor upon entry to the class.
