Cycling
Melbourne is Australia’s only capital city with an extensive network of dedicated bike lanes on the roads, which increase safety and encourage bicycle use.
The City of Melbourne is committed to becoming a cycle-friendly city. Bicycle Plan 2007-2011 is a five year plan focussing on improved on and off-road bike path networks and better bike facilities. It also seeks to educate and inform motorists and cyclists about safe cycling.

Road Harmony Film Clip Competition – enter now!
As part of the Bicycle Film festival 2009, the City of Melbourne has sponsored the Road Harmony short film clip competition. The competition challenges film-makers to use their imagination to make an inspiring and attention-grabbing short film clip to help the City of Melbourne make Melbourne a city for bikes. Films must be no more than one minute long and respond in a creative and/or humorous way to one or more of a series of ‘challenges’ in a way that promotes ‘road harmony’.
The competition welcomes all levels of filmmaking from a mobile phone/camera clip to a full-scale production. Short-listed entries will screen before the main film at Bicycle Film Festival screenings at Palace Kino Cinemas on 26 to 28 November. The winning entry will win $1000 and will feature in the City of Melbourne’s cycling promotion campaign.
