Precincts
The City of Melbourne has distinct precincts - small pockets of the city with their own unique character, colour and charm.
Each precinct has a recognisable identity. Some are small - just a lane or two - while others will transport you to another world in just a few streets.
Melbourne’s precincts offer culture, intrigue, romance and excitement, from the narrowest laneways to Melbourne’s marvellous waterfront.
Districts
Melbourne's precincts lie in four main districts:
- District South: Yarra River, Southbank, North Bank, Federation Square and St Kilda Road
- District Central: CBD area within Spring Street, Flinders Street, La Trobe Street and Queen Street. The district focuses on key retail areas in Collins Street, Little Collins Street, Flinders Lane, Bourke Street, the laneways and the arcades.
- District West: Docklands area including Spencer Street and surrounds.
- District North: Errol Street and Victoria Street in North Melbourne, Queen Victoria Market area, West Melbourne and Kensington
