International relations

In this section

Connections with international cities are extremely important to the City of Melbourne. They are an opportunity to learn, to educate and to share.  Melbourne residents, businesses and visitors all benefit from these relationships.

The City of Melbourne explores its global connections through its wide and vibrant sister city network. It provides a range of high quality and welcoming events and will continue to support and celebrate the cultural diversity of Melbourne.

As part of its international relationships, the City of Melbourne hosts visits by hundreds of diplomats and VIPs each year: ambassadors, high commissioners, overseas government officials, mayors and commanding officers from naval vessels. Beyond these high-level international visits, the City of Melbourne also hosts many school, business and community delegations. All these visits help promote Melbourne. They also serve to perpetuate Melbourne’s international reputation and presence in global markets.
