City of Melbourne TravelSmart map
The Melbourne TravelSmart Map provides a convenient and comprehensive guide to walking, cycling and public transport routes and facilities in the City of Melbourne.
The map is based on the Melway style and brings information from neighbouring councils together.
The City of Melbourne encourages its residents, workers and visitors to use sustainable and active transport. Promoting the benefits of cycling, walking and public transport is also high on Council’s agenda, which is reflected in 'Moving People and Freight; Transport Strategy 2006-2020'.
The new map is part of the broader TravelSmart map series which includes the cities of Moonee Valley, Maribyrnong, Darebin, Boroondara, Banyule, Port Phillip and Yarra.
The map was updaded in September 2008 to include features such as:
- on and off-road shared paths and bike lanes (including informal connections);
- tram, train and bus routes with route numbers and descriptions;
- updated information about bicycle parking and bicycle hoops in the central business district;
- location of bicycle shops;
- cycling tips (for riding at night, at roundabouts, locking up and general traffic rules);
- tips for travelling with limited mobility; and
- car share pod locations and information.
The Melbourne TravelSmart map is available at a variety of locations including:
- City of Melbourne - Town Hall reception on Swanston Street
- Melbourne Visitor Centre, Federation Square
- Bicycle Victoria
