Water restrictions

Due to ongoing dry weather, Stage 3a water restrictions are in place across the Melbourne water supply system. These restrictions have been in effect since 1 April 2007.

Stage 3a water restrictions help to save water while minimising impact on business and community sporting facilities.

What Stage 3a means

Stage 3a sets out specific water restrictions for:

  • households
  • gardens
  • vehicle washing
  • sportsgrounds
  • industry and
  • pools and spas

Visit the Victorian Government's Our Water, Our Future to find out what Stage 3a water restrictions mean for your home or business.

Penalties

Stage 3a water restrictions must be followed and water patrols are taking place across Melbourne to ensure compliance.

If you are issued with a warning notice and still breach the restrictions, you may have your water supply restricted, receive a penalty infringement notice or face prosecution.

To report a breach, call 13WATER (139 2837)

Greywater, rainwater and recycled water

Greywater, rainwater and recycled water can be used at any time. No restrictions apply to rainwater collected in a storage tank, provided it is not supplemented by the mains water supply. Visit EPA Victoria to find out more and access guidelines on safe water use.
