Arts and culture

Melbourne is Living the Arts every day. The City of Melbourne is committed to an environment where the people of Melbourne can participate in the arts, where artists and creative industries are encouraged and where Indigenous art and culture is valued and respected.

  • Our programs:
    • City Gallery: annual program exhibitions which draw on the City of Melbourne's Art and Heritage collection.
    • Federation Bells: permanent public art sound installation featuring 39 upturned bells.
    • Community Cultural Development Program: programs which encourage communities to participate in and influence the life of our city.
    • Creative Spaces: a website listing of creative spaces available for arts projects and events.
    • Indigenous Arts: an arts program supporting Indigenous artists and community members to produce their own work.
    • Melbourne Conversations: a series of free discussions exploring issues that make Melbourne - and Melbournians - tick.
    • Melbourne Town Hall Organ Concerts: an annual music program of concerts featuring the Grand Organ.
    • Public Art: annual laneway commissions program, outdoor heritage collection, and major artworks in the public domain.

Creative Spaces
Creative Spaces is a joint initiative between the City of Melbourne and Arts Victoria which aims to address the critical need for affordable studio space in the city. Creative Spaces locates vacant or under-utilised spaces in the municipality and make them available as artists’ studios. Visit Creative Spaces to find out more or fill out the registration form to register your interest in a short term studio space in the City of Melbourne.
