Event in Alexandra GardensEvents and activities in Melbourne’s public spaces

Every year Melbourne plays host to more than 8000 events, showcasing the city and celebrating our unique lifestyle. The City of Melbourne seeks to encourage all sectors of the community to participate in city life, while maximising the economic and social benefits from major events and festivals.

In addition to major events, Melbourne’s parks and public spaces are also available to hold smaller activities such as weddings, community family days, functions and corporate promotional activities. To view a map of accessible locations go to Melbourne's Parks and Gardens.

The City of Melbourne also encourages film makers and production companies to utilise our public spaces as the backdrop for a range of productions.

Planning an event or activity in Melbourne’s public spaces

In order to ensure public safety and amenity in Melbourne’s public spaces and to assist in the sustainable management of our parks and gardens, prospective organisers of all activities and events are required to apply for an event permit.
