Street activity

The street activity policy builds on the city’s street trading culture and ensures that people walking through the streets of Melbourne have a pleasant and welcoming experience.

The new policy recognises Melbourne's internationally renowned culture of street activity and promotes diversity as well as new opportunities for local traders.

What is street trading?

Street trading includes:

  • flower, fruit and newspaper (convenience) kiosks
  • street cylinders
  • temporary stalls at events and festivals
  • street markets
  • buskers
  • horse drawn vehicles
  • handbills
  • fundraising
  • spruikers.
