What's on City of Melbourne

Temporary food premises

A temporary food premises registration is required for food sold or served at community events such as festivals, markets, single temporary stalls, fetes or sausage sizzles.

This also includes promotional sampling activities such as giveaways at exhibitions, train stations and on public streets.

All temporary food premises need to be registered regardless of whether they are profitable, non-profitable or charity organisations.

You may also need an Event permit.

Registration enables your local environmental health officer to assess the temporary food premises and provide information to you about safe food handling and preparation practices to ensure your premises complies with the Food Act 1984.

Some temporary food premises registrations will require a food safety program and a food safety supervisor. If you are a low risk premises (that is, only selling or serving non-perishable, pre-packaged products), you may only need to complete an Application to Register Form and a Notification to Operate Form.
