The Zero Net Emissions by 2020 – Update 2008 strategy sets the City of Melbourne the target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2020. The strategy identifies areas for improved energy efficiency and reduced energy consumption.
We have developed a range of environmental policies and programs to create a more sustainable, liveable and workable Melbourne. These programs aim to improve the municipality’s environmental performance, particularly by reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, reducing water consumption, and improving water quality and waste management.
Although we have comparatively little direct control over activities that create emissions within our boundaries, we will build on our strong reputation and ability to:
- facilitate initiatives
- activate partnerships with key stakeholders
- advocate and educate
- lead by example through actions within the municipality.
