                    Respond to a building infringement

                    If you get a building infringement notice, you have been found in breach of a building regulation or local law.

                    You can choose to pay the fine by the due date, ask for an extension of time to pay, or request a review.

                    ​​​If you don’t deal with this notice by the due date, you will get a penalty reminder notice.  A penalty fee of $26.20 will be added to your fine. 

                    Building infringements are issued for breaches against the Building Regulations 2018 or Activities Local Law 2024​. We are responsible for enforcing this and other local laws.  

                    Pay the fine 

                    If you pay the infringement notice before the due date, you won’t need to take further action. 

                    The email you received with your infringement notice includes instructions on how to pay. You can use the infringement number given in this email to pay now. 

                    Ask for an extension of time 

                    You can ask for extra time to pay to avoid a penalty fee.

                    Request a penalty fee waiver 

                    You can request a waiver of the penalty fee if you: 

                    • were unaware of the fine 
                    • believe the reminder notice was issued in error 
                    • were affected by exceptional circumstances.

                    Request a review 

                    If you believe the infringement was issued in error, you can request a review. 

                    You must submit a written request with a detailed explanation of the circumstances. 

                    You can only request a review once. Be sure to include all the documents you need to substantiate your claim.
