Yandell Walton's work investigates ideas around impermanence, mortality and the otherworldly.

Often working with architectural spaces or objects and combining them with projected images or light she is interested in the blur between the actual and the virtual.

Yandell Walton is an accomplished projection installation artist exhibiting regularly in galleries and non-traditional public spaces both in Australia and Internationally. In 2015 she completed a Masters of Fine Arts at Victorian College of the Arts.

Recent public art commissions include Departed in Wagga Wagga (2016), Absent Presence in Townsville (2014) and Transition in Melbourne (2014).

Her projection work has been part of Digital Graffiti (2015) winning the Best of Show Award, Experimenta Speak to Me (Melbourne & Brisbane 2012-14), PUBLIC Festival Perth (2014), Melbourne Festival (2012), VIVID Festival Sydney (2013), ISEA (International Symposium of Electronic Art 2013) and White Night Festival Melbourne (2013/15).

                    Doorway

Doorway is a light and mist installation in a Melbourne laneway.

Part of Test Sites, Walton wanted to test the effective brightness of her light installation in a laneway with ambient local light, and to see how the fog reacted with the breeze in an open environment. The test encouraged Yandell to work towards a sustainable option for the work in a more permanent public installation.

It was evident that the work would need to be installed out of reach for safety. It would need to be self-maintained including a feature that topped water up for the fog to use. More lights within the installation and a darker laneway would help with the effectiveness.

An investigation into solar powered energy for the work is also a consideration for the work.
