James Voller is a New Zealand born, Melbourne-based photographic artist.

Since moving to Melbourne in 2012, James has developed a practice that works with a range of different communities, both in galleries and public spaces. He has recently completed a Master of Fine Art by Research (High Distinction) through Monash University and also holds a coursework Master of Fine Arts from RMIT University and a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Canterbury.

James has been included in several group exhibitions, including Streets of Gold at the Museum of London in 2012. In 2010, he received the Ethel Susan Jones Travelling Scholarship from the University of Canterbury to undertake research in Europe and also completed the RMIT Krems Artist Residency in Austria. James’s practice is focused on creating large-scale public art works that examine place and architecture.

                    Facades and Interiors

Facades and Interiors explored Melbourne's suburban architecture imagery by projecting it in Guildford Lane in the centre of the CBD. The works asked questions surrounding the difference in living between central apartment blocks and suburban homes. The work aims to acknowledge the shifts that are occurring in Guilford Lane, which is slowly being enveloped by large scale apartment blocks, which in turn adds to shift in the functionality of Guildford Lane itself. The projections were situated inside Screen Space gallery. The works were a small scale test and have left me wanting to further test on larger scales how suburban imagery can reveal the changing use of space in the central business district.
