                    Zero Net Emissions Strategy

City of Melbourne has set an ambitious target for Melbourne to become a carbon neutral city by 2020.

In conjunction with our key stakeholders, we have developed a plan for collaborative action. The Zero Net Emissions by 2020 strategy focuses on creating a sustainable future for the municipality of Melbourne.

We have made significant progress since 2002, when our landmark 'Zero Net Emissions by 2020' strategy was published. Updated versions were published in 2008 and 2014. Each successfully built upon the original strategy.

Yet collective progress in certain areas has been slow, such as reducing Victoria’s reliance on brown coal, our most emissions-intensive electricity source. Much more needs to be done, here and internationally.
