Signal Screen Commissions

Signal Screen Commissions invites young artists aged 16 to 25 to produce a screen based work. Signal is looking for works that combine art and technology in weird and wonderful ways, are innovative and engage in the spirit of Signal.

Signal will commission up to five art works created by young and emerging artists. Young artists will also have the opportunity to participate in developmental workshops including technical and creative support and mentoring.

If you're aged 16 to 25 and have a great idea, then this is your opportunity to produce a highly visible public work and bring the Signal Screen to life.

Submissions for the Signal Screen Commission open Monday 21 April 2014 and close Tuesday 6 May 2014, 5pm.

Successful applicants will be notified by Monday 12 May 2014, 5pm.

Craftivism with Craft Cartel

Get your radical craft on!

Craft Cartel, in conjunction with Spectrum and Knit Your Revolt, presents Foot-Hold; a series of street-craft workshops. Foot-Hold will combine craft techniques and the street-art practise of 'fling-ups' - shoes flung over power-lines to mark territory - to convey stories of acceptance, rejection, belonging and alienation.

Bringing together artists and young people from diverse backgrounds, Foot-Hold investigates ideas of territory to produce a large-scale collaborative street exhibition.

You’ll learn everything you need to know about craft activism from forming a stitchin’ posse, to making, installing and letting the world know about your purls of revolt. Plus, you’ll get to take part in an epic collaborative craftivism project to get your voice heard and kick-start your street-art career.

Come along to a single session, the whole series, or as many as you can fit in to your busy life! Book in below for all or any of the sessions you would like to join in.

Craft Cartel is in residence at Signal for March and April with a special guest artist for each session.

Dates and times: Thursdays and Saturdays in March and April (from 13 March until 26 April); Thursdays 5pm to 7pm; Saturdays 11am to 2.30pm
