Bookings and permits
Bookings are required for wedding ceremonies in the City of Melbourne's parks and gardens. Organisers are also required to apply for a wedding permit online.
The wedding permit entitles the hirer use of a nominated section of the garden for 4 hours. This is with the exception of the Fitzroy Gardens Conservatory. The Conservatory allows venue hire of 1.5 hours or 3 hours including set-up and pack up.
You make a booking by lodging the wedding permit application form. Ensure you have read the Terms and Conditions and viewed the fees (below) before applying.
Please note: The City of Melbourne does not play any role in organising any aspect of your event such as celebrants or providing any kind of infrastructure such as chairs or signing tables.
When submitting a wedding permit application you will be required to select a specific lawn area within the park of your choice. Locate a lawn number on the Parks location map.
Once your booking is confirmed and the permit is issued, the City of Melbourne will ensure that the booked area is clean and tidy.
Please note: The Crown Land (Reserves) Act does not allow for exclusive use of the gardens or for an area to be physically cordoned off from the public.
Use of the Conservatory
Access to Fitzroy Gardens Conservatory is not available for private use or wedding photography during opening hours (9am to 5.30pm). The Conservatory can be booked for private use outside of these times
Please note: The floral arrangements inside the conservatory cannot be altered in anyway for the ceremony. The displays vary every year and are specifically arranged to coordinate seasonal variations in availability of flowers.
Wedding permit fees
Wedding permit fees apply to commitment ceremonies that are invitation only. This does not include wedding receptions, parties or wedding photography.
All wedding permit applications will incur a $50 application fee, plus a site fee.

Apply for an event permit
If you are satisfied with the Terms and Conditions and have selected your venue, please complete your wedding permit application.
Confirmation of booking and payment
Your wedding permit application will be reviewed and assessed by the City of Melbourne Strategic Planning and Logistics Team. You will be notified in writing if your booking has been approved.
Payment for wedding bookings can only be made after the wedding permit application has been approved. You will be advised of the payment details in the acknowledgement letter you receive. Payments can be made by credit card over the phone or by sending a cheque.
Please note: The City of Melbourne hosts many events around the city and is not responsible for advising you of any other events that may be held in and around Melbourne on your wedding day. We will of course, refuse any bookings in the area of the park or garden that conflict with your wedding booking. There are certain events over which we have no direct control.
When applying for a wedding permit in Kings Domain please keep in mind that the Sidney Myer Music Bowl is located with in the gardens and musical events are often staged within the bowl. City of Melbourne is not responsible for advising when these events take place.
