What's on City of Melbourne

Bike share

Have helmet, will travel. That’s the Melbourne Bike Share philosophy. If you’re in the city and you need to get from one end of town to the other, the quickest way to travel might well be by bike.

Bring your helmet to the city, swipe your credit card and you’re set for wheels for half an hour, a couple of hours or a full day.

Take in both Ian Potter galleries in one trip, scoot around the city’s new Laneway Commission sites or plan a bike-powered progressive dinner with friends.

Melbourne Bike Share customers can borrow and return bikes at any of the many central city docking stations.

What you need to know

Helmets: bring your own, or you can purchase a $5 helmet from 7-Eleven stores and other participating retail outlets – see store locations for more information.

Riding without a helmet is illegal in Australia. Annual subscribers may purchase a discounted helmet from Melbourne Bike Share, along with annual membership.

Fees: pay an annual subscription fee online; or buy a weekly or daily subscription at any bike share docking station. Fees are calculated according to how long you ride and are charged directly from your credit card.

Docking stations: hire your bike from Melbourne University, RMIT University, Flinders Street Station, near the corner of Bourke and Swanston Street and at six other central city locations.

Visit Melbourne Bike Share for a map of the bike share pod locations and for more details about subscribing.

Happy Travels!
