What is Freegal?
Freegal is an innovative and legal MP3 download service which will allow Melbourne Library Service borrowers to download three songs per week from the extensive Sony catalogue thanks to a deal struck with Sony Entertainment.
Freegal is also the first library music service to offer the music as MP3’s that don’t have DRM copy-protection schemes, which means users can listen to them on multiple devices. Library patrons will be able to download and keep the MP3's.
All you need to access it is your Melbourne Library Service borrower card number and your PIN. Freegal offers hundreds of thousands of songs, over 100 genres of music, and more than 50 record labels, all without having to download any software.
How Freegal Music Works:
- Library users have a limit of three downloads per week. Your counter will set back to zero each week, Monday afternoon. Then you can download three more tunes during the new week.
- The downloads are all in the MP3 format with no DRM. This service will work with any MP3 player, including iPods, and can be loaded into iTunes. It works on both PCs and Macs.
- Every song has a sample clip you can listen to before you download.
