When your cat and dog reaches three months of age you must apply to register your pet with the City of Melbourne. To apply, your pet needs to be microchipped and the microchip number should be included on your application form.
The Domestic Animals Act 1994 outlines the requirements to register your pet.
Did you know?
$2 from every cat and $3.50 from every dog registration goes to the state government Bureau of Animal Welfare to fund responsible pet ownership programs in schools and the community.
So, even if your cat or dog stays indoors, you must still register it.

Registration tags
With your registration you will receive an identification tag that will help your cat or dog be returned to you if it becomes lost.
Registration tags must be fastened to your pet's collar when outside your property. We recommend that your pet wears its tag even when it is at home.
To replace a lost tag contact The City of Melbourne and a new tag will be issued to you.
Renewing your registration
You must apply to renew your registration by 10 April each year. Penalties may apply for late registration renewals.
The City of Melbourne will send you a renewal form well before this date to help you submit your application on time.

Concession
Reduced fees only apply to the card holders with a pensioner card, war widow entitlement or TPI entitlement. Health care and concession cards are not accepted.
