What's on City of Melbourne

Melbourne's urban forest art and design competition

The Urban Forest Art and Design Exhibition will feature the winning and some of the shortlisted entries amongst the canopy of our iconic plane trees down Swanston Walk mid November until 31st December.

Melbourne’s City Library will display the best of the primary school entries as a public exhibition during November and December.

A selection of entries from the ‘5’s and Under’ category will be displayed at the Hub@Docklands during November and December.

The City of Melbourne received over 400 entries from 68 suburbs and towns across Victoria – all creative interpretations of Melbourne’s trees and how our future urban forest could look.

The winners will be presented with their awards at a ceremony held at Town Hall on Friday 18th November.

The winners of the four different categories were chosen by an expert panel of judges and are as follows:

Open Category:
Tomislav Mikulic, Mentone
Artwork: Add a Branch

Secondary School:
Tony Luo, University High
Artwork: This depicts the City of Melbourne in the future as an environmentally friendly city with famous landmarks, native trees and Australian fauna and flora, surrounded by an urban forest to show the importance of trees.

Primary School:
Lucas Gauci, Queen of Peace Parish Primary School, Altona Meadows
Artwork: In my drawing these are all icons of Melbourne in a “green way” with roof top gardens and a “city forest”. I hope it will be like this in the future.

5 Years and Under:
Taylah Magee, Wilson Street Kindergarten, Brighton
Artwork: This is a rainforest. People in the city would like this forest because it looks good and it’s colourful.
