Consumption of alcohol is banned in public places in the Central Business District 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Bans are also in force on New Year’s Eve and during the Grand Prix and the Melbourne Moomba Waterfest.
The City of Melbourne has also declared major events alcohol free in streets and reserves in Carlton, in the area bounded by Victoria Parade, Swanston, Elgin and Nicholson streets.
The ban applies during Carnivale on Lygon, the Australian Grand Prix, the Lygon Street Festa and New Year’s Eve.
The ban does not affect licensed outdoor dining.
