Civic engagement and young people
In 2006, the City of Melbourne engaged the Australian Youth Research Centre at the University of Melbourne to review civic engagement and young people.
A report was written by the Youth Research Centre for the City of Melbourne and has been used to inform the establishment of two project-based youth committees: the Signal Youth Committee and the Youth Communications Committee. Both committees aim to give young people the opportunity to engage in and learn about local government processes and decision making. Go to Youth committees for full details.
The report includes a literature review of international and Australian research into youth participation, civic engagement strategies and citizenship, and presents case studies on eight local government youth participation and engagement models.
