What's on City of Melbourne

Municipal Emergency Management Plan

Every municipality is required to develop and maintain a Municipal Emergency Management Plan under S20(1) of the Emergency Management Act 1986.

The objectives of the plan are to:

  • implement measures to prevent or reduce the causes or effects of emergencies
  • manage arrangements for the utilisation and implementation of municipal resources in response to emergencies
  • manage support that may be provided to or from adjoining municipalities
  • assist the affected community to recover following an emergency
  • complement other local, regional and state planning arrangements.

In accordance with the Emergency Management Act 1986, the Municipal Emergency Management Plan must be audited every three years by the Director of the Victoria State Emergency Services. Council’s Municipal Emergency Management Plan has recently undergone an Audit and has been ranked as Best Practice.

Be prepared

Be prepared for what you might have to do in an emergency situation. Working together, we can be prepared for any emergency.
