On Friday 3 October 2008, the City of Melbourne made the significant step of convening the ‘City Safety Summit’.
The summit provided the opportunity to gain the views and potential solutions to safety issues and to build relationships across the sectors to ensure a proactive approach to tackle the issues of city safety head-on.
The Summit brought together a range of people and organisations that can influence decision-making, implement change and work together to ensure city safety. In total, 77 participants including Minister Tony Robinson, representatives from Victoria Police, Liquor Licensing Victoria, state government agencies, health and community organisations, residents groups, transport operators, city businesses, hospitality and security associations and youth representatives attended the Summit.
A report on the outcomes of the City Safety Summit was compiled to document the outcomes.
