The City of Melbourne is undertaking a trial of two security patrol vehicles fitted with 360 degree CCTV surveillance cameras.
They operate on Friday and Saturday nights from 10pm to 6am and patrol throughout the city.
The surveillance vans will record in real time and footage will be downloaded at the end of each shift. Vision can be accessed later if required only by approved authorities such as the Victoria Police.
At the end of the trial period, the program will be evaluated and a report will be prepared for Council. If the program is considered successful, these security vehicles may be included as a regular component of the city’s safety measures.
The mobile cameras trial and all recorded vision will be strictly managed in accordance with the City of Melbourne’s current Safe City Cameras Program policy and usage protocols to protect the privacy and legal rights of individuals in the public domain.
