CLUE small area and block maps

CLUE information is available for the entire municipality. This information can be divided into smaller geographical areas for more specific analysis.

CLUE data can be provided at small area, block or customised region (series of blocks) level according to standard confidentiality criteria.

Small area maps

A total of 13 standard pre-defined small areas based on official place names and suburbs are within the City of Melbourne. CLUE small areas are different from official place names and suburbs. These are:

  1. Melbourne Central Business District (CBD)
  2. Melbourne (remainder)
  3. Southbank
  4. Docklands
  5. West Melbourne (residential)
  6. West Melbourne (industrial)
  7. Parkville
  8. East Melbourne
  9. Port Melbourne
  10. South Yarra
  11. Carlton
  12. North Melbourne
  13. Kensington

Block maps

The Census area is divided into city blocks, each of which is identified by a unique block number. There are 606 individual city blocks which are primarily bounded by main roads and also take into account similar space use (for example, office use).

Geospatial map layers

To enable you to apply statistical analysis and generate maps from the CLUE data, geospatial map layers in Esri shapefile format for CLUE small areas and blocks are available to download here. You’ll need to perform a spatial join to append CLUE data attributes to these map layers.

These map layers use a spatial reference projection of GDA 1994 MGA Zone 55.

Customised data can be ordered and tailored to meet individual requirements. Data can be provided in Excel, Word, or PDF format as figures, graphs or charts depending on your needs.
