The City of Melbourne contains only a portion of South Yarra: the area west of Punt Road is in the City of Melbourne, while the area to the east is in Stonnington City Council.
The area within the City of Melbourne includes an enclave of beautiful period housing, a short stretch of traffic-heavy Punt Road, a slice of the meandering Yarra River and picturesque Fawkner Park, which offers a great variety of sporting and recreation activities for visitors and local residents alike.
The Domain Road shopping centre provides a valuable mix of convenience goods stores, restaurants and cafes to service the local community and a broader clientele.
