The City of Melbourne has developed a code of practice for galleries and retailers of Indigenous art. This document is a guide outlining ethical and appropriate ways to display and sell Indigenous art and work with Indigenous artists.
The Code is a developed statement of principles dealing with industry practices designed to set a standard of acceptable industry practice and fair dealing.
The guide encourages the sale of authentic products and promotes fair and respectful relationships between Indigenous artists and galleries and retailers.

Galleries and retailers
Subscription to the City of Melbourne's code of practice is open to all galleries and retailers in the municipality. Galleries and retailers who wish to subscribe are asked to fill in a registration form and submit evidence of their compliance.
The code is voluntary and aims to set a standard of acceptable industry practice for galleries and retailers. Subscribing to the code creates a point of difference for galleries and retailers.
