What's on City of Melbourne

Triennial Sponsorship Program

Applications are now closed and will reopen in 2014.

The City of Melbourne’s Triennial Sponsorship Program supports a diverse mix of major iconic annual events including (but not limited to) sporting, cultural, fashion and national events.

The City of Melbourne is keen to build genuine partnerships with organisations to assist in delivering its vision for Melbourne as a bold, inspirational and sustainable city.

The Triennial Sponsorship Program provides three year funding of cash and/ or in-kind for organisations delivering major iconic annual events that enhance Melbourne's local, national and international reputation as a major events leader. Funding is allocated per financial year.

Council typically receives more funding applications than it can support. The success of an application is determined by its merits against the Evaluation Criteria and in competition with other submissions.

Applications are now closed and will reopen in 2014.

TSP funding period

Funding operates per financial year in line with Council’s operations. The funding years for the current TSP round are as follows:

  • Year One: 1 August 2011 to 30 June 2012
  • Year Two: 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2013
  • Year Three: 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014

Cash sponsorship

The previous Triennial Sponsorship Program provided funding to 13 organisations for the period 2008–11. The 2008–11 Triennial Program budget was approximately $1.4 million per annum. Typically events receiving Triennial Sponsorship Program funding have received amounts from $50,000 in cash support.

Applicants cannot apply for varying amounts per each year of funding across the three year funding period. The same amount applies for each of the three years.

CPI will be added each year at a rate calculated by the City of Melbourne.

In-kind sponsorship

In-kind relates to the hire of City of Melbourne managed outdoor public space only. A list of public spaces managed by City of Melbourne can be found at event fees.

The in-kind support cannot include any costs associated with the following:

  • park reinstatement fees incurred as a result of your event
  • banner related costs
  • marketing
  • TSA’s
  • Town Hall Hire or any other City of Melbourne owned indooor venue
  • POPE (Place of Public Entertainment Building Regulation Permit)
